Following on from my last post, in which I explained why I pick a single word for the year’s focus, it’s time I announced my word for 2015…..
I really hope I can soar this year. I want to build on the progress I made in 2014 and see where it can take me. I want to rise above the bullshit that I’ll encounter. I want to always see the bigger picture and keep things in perspective. There’ll no doubt be turbulence along the way but being a runner at heart I’ll always be looking for that tailwind!
Whether it’s gliding along like a majestic hawk or squawking and flapping like a seagull begging for chips, I really don’t mind, as long as I can soar, just for a little bit at least. But not like geese though. Because they can be right bastards.
There’s an awful lot to look forward to this year. A fantastic once-in-a-lifetime holiday with family (more on that next month!), some special milestones (one of which being the birthday that will see me on the wrong side of 20) and not forgetting the matter of the London Marathon.
As well as the inevitable running goals I’ll be setting myself I’ve also got a couple of different challenges I’m striving for this year. One is to volunteer at least six times for either races or parkruns. The other is to read 30 books before the year is out. I’m not sure I’ll get anywhere near this to be honest but it won’t do me any harm to try.
I’m a sucker for quotes too, so whilst on the subject of books, I’ll leave you with some of my favourite words from Roald Dahl. Thanks for all the support in 2014 – it means the world.
